PaulsgrovePaulsgrove used to be the home of Johnson and Johnson and Smith's Crisp's. Built in the 1940's the estate was a temporary shelter for those that had to be moved out of the bomb stricken city. Still standing today! Most of the homes had asbestos or corrugated iron roofs and in the main they where constructed with a prefab steel reinforced concrete. Those people that have bought there homes have had these replaced (the council replaced the asbestos don't worry). The Paulsgrove tip (not the estate) now has a new name 'Port Solent' the tip is still active and is a good place to get your compost from. They shred all the areas garden waste and allow it to root down. Even Alan Titchmarch has used this, although he did point out that you don't know how much goodness is in each bag. If you want to move to Portsmouth but can't afford most areas then you need to know that Paulsgrove is the cheapest area in the city, and that around the edge of the area you can find some nice brick built homes although these are built with lime mortar. New homes have been built in the area and can be found for sale, but usually they are bought up very quickly.
