Portchester

Portchester near Portsmouth is most famous for it's Castle, which was originally a Roman fort built around the 3rd century, the castle which took it's place was built around 1120 by Henry I.

The castle today is a great place to visit whilst in Portsmouth, the images below show the remains of Portchester castle and during the summer months there are a number of re-enactments of battles that took place around the area.

House's in the area are much sort after, as the area is quiet and has easy access to the North, East and West of the City.

Portchester has it's own community centre, which is the home for the Portchester Players, one of the very few local centre's that still shows these local thespian style theatre productions.

The area includes:
Shopping Area (small, but very good.)
Portchester Castle.
Schools.
Scout Base.
Access:
Portchester can be found heading 2 miles west from Cosham along the A27.
Train, the Portchester station is between Fareham and Cosham / Portsmouth.
 
Things to do:
Visit the castle, it dates back to the 3rd century.
See a show, put on by the Portchester Players at the community centre.
 
Parking:
Poor but mainly free, the shopping area has a large car park at the rear, (Price's unknown at time of print). All other parking is on street, remembering that Portchester is an old town, these streets can be very narrow.
